BE VULNERABLE

In my college success class, my professor was discussing the concept of self-analysis; how the way you perceive yourself and the way others see you can be completely different. There is a difference between caring what others think about you and wanting to be seen a certain way. I don't let what others think stop me from doing what I love, and at the same time, I want to be seen as a happy, outgoing person who is always here to help. I want to live in a more social world. I want smiles and greetings to be more common than not. In situations that I feel insecure; I find myself unable to speak. Silence is a dead give away of having self-doubt or can be seen as rude and closed off. Being rude or mean to impress others is one of the largest misconceptions of our time. The other day I heard someone say "people who are rude usually feel powerless in their own lives, terrified of not being in control." I was so mind blown! Whenever I think of a "bully" from my past; there isn't one that doesn't fit that description. It's sad when the only thing "bullies" have control over is the emotions of another. When someone is polite and kind-hearted, they are seen as confident and secure. Wanting to be there for others and be the "sunshine" in everyone's day is what impresses the ones that matter.
Vulnerability traditionally is identified as a weakness. I think being vocal and open about the things that make someone feel weak or inferior can only make them stronger. Some might fear that if the world sees who they truly are; they will be judged. The other day Vanesa Seco said, "I find it amusing that we're all pretending to be normal when we could be insanely interesting instead." The ways that people differ is what truly makes this world so amazing. Pretending to be like everyone else, deprives the world of the unique gifts it has given. When I open my heart to the people around me; I can fell myself grow more comfortable with being who I truly am. Picture the heart as a home. No one can get inside if the doors are locked. Choose to have an open heart. Unlock the doors. No one is going to love you unless you're one hundred percent yourself. Make a point to smile and be kind each day. Thanks for making this world "insanely interesting". If you ever need me; my doors are always open! ;)
